Kenfield Crescent

Kenfield Crescent is the refurbishment and extension of an existing granite semi detached dwelling.
This project was conceived mid 2020 and was developed over time to embrace the overall lifestyle that our clients envisioned. The project morphed through numerous meetings and as well as the footprint varying in proportion the details also evolved into the creation of a simple streamlined extension.

Phase 1 was the refurbishment of the ground and first floor accommodation which included removal of the woodchip wallpaper, skim coating the complete interior, lifting all the old carpets and sanding back the stunning original floor boards, installation of insulation within the roof space and between ground floor joists, re wiring the entire dwelling and installation of a new heating system and retro radiators.

Phase 2 which started on site on 7th June will see the rear of the property and garden area become the main living area and focus the family home. Opening up the rear elevation allows for the creating of an open plan living, dining family room which has views out over the secluded south west facing garden area. The use of a limited pallete of high quality external materials will integrate the extension with the newly formed external terrace. Re-using granite from the down takings was key to allowing the newly formed external terrace to integrate with the new extension. When the new bi-fold doors are open it allows the extension to blend seamlessly with the lower terrace area creating additional space entertaining day or night.

Looking forward to seeing this project grow out of the ground to create the additional living accommodation that Hayley and Stuart aspire to create. Projects of this nature and indeed any project is a journey and we (client and design team) must be prepared to change our perception of what the initial idea was into the end result. It is good communication that is key to everyone enjoying the time it takes to start with an idea which then becomes reality. You must be able to listen, voice opinions, discuss options, take on board feedback to ensure that what grows and develops makes everyone proud of what has been achieved.
